What should I send?
Mail art has a long history of radical inclusion—accessible for anyone to create, yet intimate in that its contents are almost always known only to the sender and the receiver.
For this project, “mail art” is defined in the broadest possible sense: drawings, paintings, old stories, photos, doodles, patches, posters, poems, diary entries, Notes app fragments, emails—anything you feel moved to share. Tell us about your experiences. Tell us what being queer has meant in your life.
Your mail will be collected and preserved for 100 years before being opened and shared publicly. In the meantime, the sealed envelopes—unopened and unread—will be displayed to raise awareness for the project. Any identifying information on the outside will be fully redacted, and viewers will not be allowed to touch the mail. If privacy is a concern, we encourage you not to include your return address.
The century-long delay in opening the mail is intentional. It’s meant to create space for honesty, vulnerability, and expression without fear of judgment or reprisal. Documenting and preserving queer history is important—we want your story to be part of that legacy.
Send us anything and everything!
